Section 01

Why sets matter

Collecting individual cards is only part of KOTAMON. The binder organizes cards into four color sets, and Steam awards an achievement for completing each set. Two additional achievements reward completing a full foil set and collecting all foil cards, so set completion is the backbone of long-term progression.

Section 02

Blue Set — Water

The Blue Set uses aquatic, sailor, and ocean-themed cards. Ten entries have been documented from official footage, including Squirtoise, Octopus Kotoe, and Salty Sailor. Completing the full blue set unlocks the 'Water-walker' achievement.

Section 03

White Set — Air

Steam calls this the white set, but the binder tab appears pale gold in footage. Its nine documented cards use air, angel, and bird motifs, including Kotvael, Kotaang, and Pilot Kotowsky. Completion unlocks 'Airbender'.

Section 04

Red Set — Fire

The Red Set contains fire and demon-themed cards. Eight entries are documented, including KMC, Smokey Kota, and the high-stat SSR Koterberus. Completing the set unlocks 'Firestarter'.

Section 05

Purple Set — Dark

The Purple Set is the gothic/undead group with cards like Dio Kotando, Bloodcat, and Gothic Kotik. Eight entries are documented. Completion unlocks 'The Dark Master'.

Section 06

Documented vs. shipped totals

The counts above are cards readable in public footage, not an official statement of final set size. Empty binder slots in the trailer may be filled by additional cards at launch. Use your in-game binder as the final authority.

Section 07

Completion strategy

Focus your tracking on one set at a time, while remembering that no color-specific drop route is confirmed. Run complete dump searches, review every card against the chosen binder tab, and repair or swap duplicates only through rules visible in the current build. Open cereal boxes for possible foil copies and check off each supported find in the Collection Tracker so the unresolved slots remain clear.

Section 08

Use the retail binder as the final checklist

The official store promises dozens of cards and rewards for colored sets but does not publish the final membership of every set. Trailer-readable records are a starting reference, not authority over a current save. Compare each documented name with the retail binder tab, leave unread or unrevealed slots unresolved, and record the installed version when a new card appears. This prevents an older public-footage count from being presented as a permanent shipped total.

Section 09

Plan regular and foil completion separately

Steam lists colored-set achievements as well as 'A True Fan' for a full foil set and 'The Collector' for all foil cards. Maintain two marks for each design: the documented regular card and a confirmed foil copy. A foil does not erase the need to understand the underlying set, and the short achievement descriptions do not explain every repaired or swapped-copy edge case. Preserve uncertain copies until the current game confirms progress.

Section 10

Diagnose a set achievement that does not unlock

First compare the in-game binder with the set checklist and check for a visually similar missing design. Confirm the retail version and restart Steam normally once. The first major post-release update specifically fixed achievements, including a reported white-set completion problem, so an old report may describe a resolved launch bug. Record the set, card conditions, foil status, save origin, and build before reporting a persistent mismatch.

Section 11

Do not infer color-specific drop locations

The database organizes cards by binder color, but that organization is not evidence that blue cards drop near water, red cards occupy a special trash pile, or one delivery favors purple designs. No such location table is established by the cited official sources. Search with complete routes, track results privately, and publish a location claim only when repeatable retail evidence or a developer statement supports it.

Section 12

Submit a set correction with evidence

Provide the exact card name, visible tab, rarity, game version, and a retail screenshot that includes enough binder context to identify the set. Do not submit extracted artwork or game-file archives. A correction based on a blurred trailer frame should stay marked uncertain until better evidence appears. The editorial policy prefers official retail material and direct observation over unsourced lists, and updates the canonical set guide instead of creating doorway pages for every possible spelling.

Section 13

A practical set-by-set routine

Choose the color with the fewest unresolved slots, list the missing documented designs, and run complete trash refreshes without assuming a color-specific area. After each delivery, update regular and foil marks separately and keep one uncertain copy until the binder clarifies it. When the visible set looks complete, allow Steam to synchronize and check the achievement before selling or swapping copies. Move to another set if repetition becomes unproductive; the route remains useful even when random selection does not favor the current target.
