KOTAMON Achievement Guide: A Safe Route to 100% Completion

Plan all 40 KOTAMON achievements across cards, foils, collectibles, cash, upgrades, recycling, beer, and throwing challenges.

Section 01

Start with the 40-achievement structure

Steam currently lists 40 achievements for KOTAMON. They fall into recurring progress families rather than forty unrelated tasks: card and color-set completion, foil completion, figurines, audiotapes, cosplay outfits, recycled bags, cash held, upgrades purchased, beer consumed, cereal boxes opened, throwing distances, and several one-off world interactions. Planning by family prevents redundant grinding. Keep the official achievement page open for current wording, because launch patches already changed or repaired several triggers and a community checklist can become outdated quickly.

Section 02

Protect the save before beginning a completion run

Save reliability is part of the route, not a separate concern. Launch discussions include reports of inaccessible save menus and upgrades or money disappearing while cards and collectibles remained. Before committing to long counters, confirm the current build, verify that a short save-and-reload preserves cash and upgrades, and keep screenshots of major collection milestones. Do not use third-party achievement unlockers or replace save files. A clean retail save and reproducible progress are safer than trying to repair a mixed demo state after dozens of hours.

Section 03

Combine recycling, beer, and ordinary progression

The recycling chain advances at 7, 69, 256, and 999 bags, while the beer chain advances at 12, 42, 146, and 1,000 cans. These are long cumulative goals, so forcing them in isolation at the start creates unnecessary repetition. Recycle and restore energy during ordinary card and collectible runs, then check the remaining totals after the shorter goals are complete. The official descriptions establish the counts but do not promise an accelerated late-game method. Treat any claimed exploit or automation as unverified unless a current official source documents it.

Section 04

Complete fixed collectibles before relying on random drops

Figurine achievements trigger at 1, 5, 9, and 12 finds. Retail walkthrough evidence separates six fixed landmark pickups from six random trash-pile finds, so complete the fixed sweep first and let the random half progress during normal clearing. Audiotape achievements require 1, 5, and 7 tapes; cosplay achievements require 1 and 3 outfits. A post-release developer update increased figurine and cosplay-case frequency, making old launch estimates unreliable. Record collection counts between runs rather than assuming a dry pile means a collectible is permanently missing.

Section 05

Track normal sets and foil goals separately

The four visible color goals are Water-walker for blue, Airbender for white, Firestarter for red, and The Dark Master for purple. Foils use a separate track: A True Fan requires a full foil set, while The Collector requires all foil cards. Owning a normal card does not prove its foil counterpart is complete. Keep separate checkmarks and preserve first copies until the matching achievement fires. Steam discussion shows strong player concern about the collection grind, but it does not establish exact drop odds or a pity system.

Section 06

Use cereal-box milestones as part of the foil route

Just Don't Eat It! requires one cereal box and Gacha Addiction requires ten. The official store page says an unopened cereal box can contain a super-rare foil card, not that every box guarantees one. Opening boxes therefore advances a confirmed counter while also giving a chance at foil progress. A developer update increased box frequency and later described a shop option after all stats are maxed. Both availability and price are version-sensitive, so verify the current shop before planning a cash grind around purchased boxes.

Section 07

Plan cash and upgrade goals in alternating phases

Cash achievements require holding $1,000, $10,000, $50,000, and $100,000, while upgrade achievements reward buying one upgrade, buying twenty, maxing a stat, and buying all upgrades. Spending fights directly against the holding milestones. Use the cash thresholds as stopping points: pause optional purchases until a milestone unlocks, then invest in the upgrade that removes the clearest bottleneck. Developer rebalancing changed upgrade costs after the demo, so do not rely on demo-era prices or a static hours-to-completion estimate.

Section 08

Treat the throwing achievements as a separate skill block

3-Pointer, Sharpshooter, and Olympic Thrower require hitting the compactor tray from 10, 20, and 30 meters. Complete them together after learning the yard landmarks and bag physics. Community feedback notes that bags can bounce and that the magnet upgrade does not always behave as players expect, but those reports do not prove a guaranteed setup. Use visible distance and a clean line to the tray, change one variable at a time, and do not assume a bounce or magnet interaction is required by the achievement text.

Section 09

Handle one-off achievements with visible confirmation

The remaining list includes turning on the radio, obtaining Kotalion, clearing all garbage in the yard, and other single-state actions. Do each during normal exploration and confirm the Steam notification before moving on. If an action appears complete but does not unlock, compare the current wording with the in-game state and newest developer announcement. Launch updates specifically mention broken achievement triggers, including white-set completion, so an old report is evidence of a past issue rather than proof that the present build is still affected.

Section 10

Run a final audit instead of repeating everything

At the end, group missing achievements by counter, collection, economy, skill, or one-off interaction. Verify the binder for normal and foil status, the display counts for collectibles, cash before spending, and upgrade levels after a save reload. Repeat only the smallest action that should cross a visible threshold. If it still fails, preserve the save and report the build, requirement, current count, and exact final action. This is safer and more useful than replaying the entire game or using an unofficial unlocker to hide a reproducible bug.
